About Two Rivers Butcher Block End-Grain Cutting Boards
Two Rivers Butcher Block™ cutting boards started when I asked my husband Chris to make a desk for my son. The desk turned out beautifully, much better than I had hoped. My husband so impressed me with his talent and attention to detail that I asked him to make me an end-grain cutting board. I love to cook, and I’m very conscious of the source of our food and preparation equipment. I wanted a durable board that was made of natural materials here in the USA. The result was a stunning cherry butcher-block board that I use daily.
Two Rivers Butcher Block boards, with proper care, withstand the test of time and the wear and tear of a busy family. And our boards have handled some unusual wear and tear. I burned my cherry board when I laid it on the stove to dry, and I had accidentally left the burner on. Later, I ran it through the dishwasher by mistake. To our surprise the board came out intact. After treating it with board conditioner, it was as good as new, except for the burn, of course, and I still use it today. I don’t recommend you try this – but it shows the durability of Two Rivers Butcher Block cutting boards!
Enjoy your board!
We handcraft our boards individually at our woodshop in Naperville, IL. We use prime grade wood, the highest grade, purchased locally, from a Forest Stewardship Council Certified supplier.
Chris hand selects the wood used for each board, taking great care to consider the distinctive patterns and natural colors of each piece. After constructing the board, he sands each block by hand with a series of ever finer grit sand paper until the surface is silky smooth. Finally, he rubs each board down with a blend of food grade mineral oil, beeswax, and carnauba. This conditions the board and provides a moisture barrier.
The result of this attention-to-detail is a beautiful and unique butcher-block board, soundly constructed, that will stand the test of time with proper care. And, a Two Rivers Butcher Block board is sure to add warmth, beauty, and functionality to your kitchen.
